Yoga And Infertility - Yoga Postures For Successful Conception

Yoga And Infertility

What you need to start practising yoga:
  • a mat
  • pillows
  • blanket 
Special alpha state music is recommended but you can induce the alpha state easily.

Directions: Place the pillow horizontally in front of you. Sit behind the pillow and bring both legs over it. Gently lie back. Bring your hands to your belly or rest with arms to the sides of the body.

Benefits: Very relaxing, opens the heart meridian, releases heaviness in the chest, a wonderful place to practise peaceful breathing and bring loving focus into the reproductive organs.

Option: Place a rolled blanket under the cervical spine for neck support.

Here are some mantras that may be helpful for visualization while you mediating: 
  • "My ovaries are healthy, nourished and able to release a healthy egg." 
  • "My fallopian tubes are healthy, nourished and able to guide an egg to my uterus."
  • "My uterus is healthy, nourished and able to grow a perfect baby,"
  • "I will be a wonderful, caring mother." 
Supported Straddle Forward Fold
 
Directions: From sitting, open legs to a straddle position. Place pillows in front of you. Make sure you use as many pillows as needed so that you may rest your chest and head comfortably without straining. You can position the head to the side or with the head facing down.

Benefits: Increases circulation to the pelvic floor, relaxes and releases the low back. Same mantras can be used.
 
Supported Angle Forward Fold

Directions: Come into a seated position with the soles of the feet together and the knees out to the sides. The heels should be a comfortable distance away from the pelvis. Bring the bolster and as many blankets as needed under the chest and head. The head may rest to the side or straight down. Repeat the mantras.

Options: Place rolled blankets under each knee to decrease any strain in the knees or legs. Place a folded blanket under the sitting bones to decrease strain in the low back. 

Benefits: Opens the hips, soothes the abdomen, relieves cramping in the uterus due to menses and relieves discomfort in the uterus or ovaries caused by fertility drugs/fertility treatments.

Supported Pigeon Pose

Directions: Place pillows in front of you. Come to your hands and knees. Bend your right knee and bring it forward. The right foot should be in toward your groin. Rest your torso and head on the pillow with your head to one side. To increase intensity in the pose, bring the foot of the bent leg further away from the groin and toward the pillows. (Make sure you do both right and left sides.)

Options: For uncomfortable knee intensity, flex the foot of the bent leg in the pose. If you feel you are sinking off to one side, use folded blankets under the sinking hip to raise it. Hips should be level.
