Male Infertility Treatment

Male Infertility Treatment

Male infertility can be caused by all sorts of sperm defects (low volume, low motility, irregular shape), erectile dysfunction and obstructions (varicocele and prostatitis).

If there is zero or extremely low count, it is best to seek advice from a fertility specialist who may recommend ICSI to optimize fertilization.

Some things men can do to enhance their fertility is to avoid alcohol and smoking, reduce poor quality fats in the diet and increase exercise. But there are two basic strategies to optimize male fertility. First clear any obstructions and then "tone" the reproductive tissue.

Male Infertility Treatment

Use of Herbs

If you think there is an obstruction (constipation, dribbling urine, poor erectile function), use herbs such as Gokshura (Tribulis terrestris), Guduchi (Tinosporia cordifolia) and Triphala to clear the blockage. When the path is clear, use tonics.

Ayurveda has a fantastic repertoire of tonic herbs for improving erectile function, boosting sperm count, strengthening motility and enhancing form. Use Organic Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Kapikacchu (Mucuna pruiens) to treat any weakness in sperm count, form or function. Or try Pukka Ashwagandha Plus, which combines a range of herbs to boost male sexual energy and fertility.

The following are also a few herbs used to treat male infertility:
  • Ginseng (Panax ginseng) - Known as a male tonic (an agent that improves general health) and used to increase testosterone levels and sperm count. Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) can also be used.
  • Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) - Increases sperm motility
  • Sarsaparilla (Smilax spp.) - Known as a male (and female) tonic
  • Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) - Used for overall male reproductive health
Sperm and egg production can also be improved with herbs like:
  • Banyan Tree Bark: The bark of this tree should be removed and dried properly in the shade. Then this bark should be powdered. Ten grams of this powder, along with 10 gm of sugar, should be taken once early in the morning by both the partners daily for 60 days. This may help in improving the condition.
  • The root of Lakshmana tree taken during Pushya Nakshatra and crushed in gheekavar juice and then taken orally. It is to be taken with milk mixed in ghee on an empty stomach for three to seven days after periodic cycle stops.
  • Pumpkin seeds are naturally high in zinc and have EFA (essential fatty acids) which are fundamental to healthy functioning of the male reproductive system. Therefore, eat pumpkin seeds to help maintain a healthy reproductive system.
Some men do have a sufficient quantity of sperms, but are infertile of the inability to have continuous erection (called erectile dysfunction). This condition may be due to physical causes like inadequate blood flow to the penis diabetes, neurological defects and hormonal problems.

So, erectile dysfunction may be treated using herbal medicines like:
  • Agnitundi Vati
  • Vishtinduk Vati
  • Tapyadi Loh

These medicines can also be used to treat retrograde ejaculation (the sperm goes backward into the bladder, instead of coming out of the penis). There are many good ayurveda medicines for azoospermia.

This should be continued for about 8 to 15 months to get desired result. Take 1mg of mixture with 200ml of milk twice (morning and evening) a day. It can be a cure for the conditions above.

Also: Addizoa tablet (Charak) 2 tablets twice daily with water or milk is also very effective in male infertility. Speman Forte and Tentess Forte tablets of Himalaya drugs are both useful drugs for males. To find out more, you can check out Male Infertility Treatment.
